Hormone Balance Hotline - Volume 5, Number 2

October 2015

In This Issue

Dear Friends,

Pat Lee

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue of the Hormone Balance Hotline! This October, we are particularly excited to tell you about a stunning new research study on the benefits of natural progesterone in the treatment of breast cancer. The wonderful news about this study is that it confirms what John R. Lee, M.D. and his colleague, David Zava, Ph.D., said about progesterone more than a decade ago.

When Dr. Lee and Dr. Zava wrote What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer, they knew that many doctors would dismiss their statements that progesterone could help prevent and even treat breast cancer. That is why they included more than 70 pages of references to research papers in the back of the book to support their findings! I remember the long days when my husband was poring over those papers and drawing his revolutionary conclusions about the connections between hormones and cancer. He had a remarkable ability to examine dozens of scientific studies and create coherent theories that explained all of their results.

Now, cancer researchers are coming to the same conclusions that Dr. Lee published years ago. We are so proud of that and know that he would be too. I imagine him looking at those scientists as they arrived at their conclusions and saying, “I was wondering when you would get here!”

When we learned about this new study, I asked Sally Kroon, L.Ac. – our CEO, Dr. Lee’s protégé, and a longtime healthcare provider – if we could celebrate the latest news about progesterone and its benefits with a new Hormone Balance Hotline. She agreed right away and then told me that we have something else to celebrate. Our team has been working for several weeks on a new Facebook website dedicated to Dr. Lee and is ready to launch it! We are proud to announce the debut of this new site, so please read our article about it in this issue.

There is one more thing we have to celebrate. That is YOU, Dr. Lee’s supporters. To honor you this month, we are offering great discounts on products that can help you and your loved ones beat breast cancer or, even better, prevent it. So come join us as we raise a glass to Dr. Lee and his remarkable insights. It is our pleasure to spend Breast Cancer Awareness Month with you, our loyal customers.

Yours for good health,

Mrs. Pat Lee

New Research Shows Natural Progesterone Can Help Treat Breast Cancer

Two months ago, a large team of scientists working on multiple continents published a research study that came to startling conclusions about breast cancer and natural progesterone. The team determined that unlike synthetic progestins, which increase breast cancer risks, natural progesterone has the potential to slow the growth of many breast cancer tumors or even shrink them. Click here to read about this remarkable study and discover how it confirms what Dr. Lee and Dr. Zava said more than a decade ago.

What Hormones Should You Test When Breast Cancer is a Concern?

When Breast Cancer Awareness Month rolls around every October, the media bombards women with messages about the importance of getting regular mammograms to test themselves for breast cancer. While mammograms have their place, they cannot tell you if you have a hormone imbalance that could put you at a greater risk to get breast cancer in the future or reduce your chances of recovering from the disease.

As Dr. Lee and Dr. Zava clearly demonstrate in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer, hormone imbalances can increase your breast cancer risks. That makes it important for women, especially as they age, to regularly test their hormones. However, which hormones should you test and how should you test them?

The answer to the first question can be found in a fascinating conversation between Dr. Lee and Dr. Zava on our website. As you will learn by reading the conversation, Dr. Zava discovered an unusual set of hormonal imbalances that frequently appear in women prior to being diagnosed with breast cancer, but rarely in other women. The “Breast Cancer Profile” involves imbalances in five hormones: estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and DHEA-S. Therefore, Dr. Zava and Dr. Lee recommended that women test at least these five hormones together to determine if they have an imbalance that could put them at greater risk for breast cancer.

How should you test these hormones? The answer is by saliva, as this is the fluid where Dr. Zava identified the imbalances in the Breast Cancer Profile. In addition, saliva is the only bodily fluid that laboratories can use to measure the biologically active forms of the hormones listed above. These forms are the only ones that can bind to cell receptors in breast tissue and everywhere else in the body. To learn more about saliva testing, click here to read an article on the topic.

By the way, we offer two test kits that make it easy for you to test all five of the hormones in the Breast Cancer Profile. The first kit is the Female/Male Saliva Profile III, which tests all five of the hormones when you rise in the morning as well as Cortisol at three additional points in the day. The second kit – the Female/Male Saliva Profile II – is the same as the first package, but tests Cortisol at one additional point in the day. Either kit is an excellent choice. And this month only, you can get a 10% discount on either of these saliva test kits! Just locate the coupon code that you will find in the email version of this newsletter and enter it when you have placed either test kit into your Shopping Cart.

This October, we want you to know that hormonal imbalances cause more than hot flashes or other unpleasant symptoms. They can put you at much greater risk for breast cancer. The good news, however, is that you can bring your hormones back into balance and reduce your risk. So test your hormones regularly and follow the advice in What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer to balance your hormones safely and naturally.

New Saliva Hormone Tests Save Money and Simplify Ordering

If you’ve read what Dr. Lee says about saliva hormone testing, you know that saliva tests measure your sex and adrenal hormones in ways that are superior to other tests. What you may not know is that we’ve added several new saliva test packages to our website. These packages not only help you to identify specific hormonal imbalances, but also save you money. Here’s a list of our newest tests.

  • Hormone Trio – When people asked Dr. Lee which of the sex hormones they should test, he told them that at the least, they should test their Estradiol (E2), Progesterone (Pg), and Testosterone (T) levels. Why? Because among the sex hormones, these three have the greatest overall influence on our health. Dr. Lee said it is important to test all three hormones together to measure not only the levels for each individual hormone, but also the level of each hormone relative to the other two hormones. These relative levels are just as crucial for our health as the individual levels of each hormone, and Dr. Lee talked about optimal relative levels in many places in his books. Normally, it costs $150 to test all three hormones individually. By contrast, the Hormone Trio costs $110 for a $40 savings!

  • Estrogen Dominance – Estrogen dominance, a syndrome that Dr. John Lee was the first to identify, is a condition where estrogen levels are higher than they should be relative to progesterone levels. This package measures both estrogen and progesterone by testing Estradiol (E2), the most potent estrogen, and Progesterone (Pg). The test results give you the levels for both hormones and the all-important ratio between the two so you can determine with your doctor whether you are estrogen dominant. Normally, it costs $100 to test these two hormones. By contrast, the Estrogen Dominance package costs $75 for a $25 savings!

  • Diurnal Cortisol – Cortisol helps convert sugar (glucose) and fat into energy and helps the body to manage stress. It is the master hormone of the adrenal system and its level rises and falls in distinct patterns every 24 hours. This profile assesses that pattern by measuring Cortisol in the morning, noon, evening, and just before bed. It is suggested for those suffering from physical or emotional stress, chronic fatigue, obesity, depression, sleep disorders, allergies, and immune function disorders. Normally, it costs $200 to measure Cortisol at these four times, but the Diurnal Cortisol package costs $135 for a $65 savings!
